Invisalign Compared to Braces

Invisalign Compared to BracesYour smile may need orthodontic treatment if it is suffering from having a crossbite, open bite, underbite, overbite, gapped teeth, crowded teeth or crooked teeth. A variety of orthodontic treatments are available to straighten your teeth and align your bite for better dental health and smile aesthetics. Our Huntington Beach Invisalign expert may recommend either conventional braces or Invisalign clear braces depending on your needs.

Invisalign is a comfortable, efficient way to move your teeth. You will receive a set of clear plastic aligners that should be worn at all times of the day, unless you are eating. After meals, you will need to brush and floss your teeth before replacing your aligners to prevent any plaque buildup. With your customized treatment plan, it is also required that you change aligners every two weeks. The aligners are nearly invisible to allow you to straighten your teeth discreetly. While they offer popular aesthetic benefits, they also make it easier for you to clean your teeth during treatment. Invisalign is most effective for patients with mild to moderate orthodontic issues.

Traditional braces consist of brackets and wires, and the braces are adjusted periodically to make the desired tooth movements. Braces are visible against teeth unless patients opt for clear brackets and can also be difficult to clean. Since they are bonded to your teeth, you will need to spend extra time brushing and flossing around each bracket. In addition to cleaning difficulties, you may even need to skip some of your favorite foods, such as apples or nuts, because they can damage the wires. However, braces can perform some complex tooth movements that Invisalign cannot, which can make them a good choice for patients with complicated needs.
